What is MatesRace?
MatesRace is the biggest and most challenging fundraiser, involving a 28 day “race” around the entire coast of Australia.

Whats so challenging about that?
Well teams of two will have to beg, busk and borrow their way around Australia...

WITH NO MONEY!!!!!!!!

Following, the designated race course and some loose rules it will be up to their own street smarts and creativity to get from town to town.

Each team, representing their own charity, will raise funds through corporate sponsorship and individual contributions before leaving.

Teams will capture their experience along the way with their own handy cam.

How will they make it?
By promoting their greatest asset, the word MATE. Aussies are renowned for using the term.

We say it every day to family, friends and people we meet for the first time… and yes, to those who we have met but just can’t quite remember their name (don’t be shy we have all done it before).

Teams will be expected to rely on good ol’ fashion Aussie mateship to help them out by way of a lift, meal or bed.

Event Summary
28 day “race” around the coast of Australia (approx 20,000 km)
6 Teams of 2 people will compete with NO MONEY!
Teams represent their own charity and raise money through sponsorship
Teams will have to busk and work for money to use on travel, food and shelter
The race course will depart from Sydney, on Boxing Day, and proceed clockwise. I.e. Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth …..
Teams have to complete “Charitable Challenges” along the way
Teams must follow the set course and “race guidelines”.
Teams will be expected to rely on good ol’ fashion Aussie mateship

Connecting with the blind and vision impaired communities and
encorporating elements of the work he has produced on the streets
across the globe, ANDY UPROCK follows 'Trailblazers' with the debut of
his interactive Braille works in a solo exhibition Graffiti for the
Blind - Poetry in Braille - Peace at the MTV Gallery opening Wednesday
November 26 from 6-9pm. Presented by Mooks and Vice and in association
with Vision Australia the exhibition is a series of emotive
interactive works comprising of Braille poetry with cups, a
collaborative Braille jewellery collection with TMOD and a series of
photographs. All works are for sale with a percentage of proceeds
donated to Vision Australia.

‘Smoke & Mirrors’ – an interactive range of silver jewellery.

Smoke & Mirrors is a journey of enigmatic illusion that tests the logic of the mind and challenges
perceptions of reality.

An extension of Turn Me On Design’s former range,Oh Fiddlesticks, Smoke & Mirrors was created
from a jewellery fiddling addiction. The latest collection provides purpose to the ‘fiddled’ action, in
the form of horseshoes, keys and cubed pieces.

Each design is a relic of the past, with a nostalgic reference to ancient puzzles and games. The
‘Key’ necklace, is modelled on two interlinked antique keys; and the wearer’s aim is to separate
each piece using a designed groove system. Then there’s the six-sided ‘Cube’, which requires one
to consider all sides simultaneously while navigating a cross beam through the centre.

The very meaning of Smoke & Mirrors alludes to artful deception; tricks that are translated into the
functionality of each piece and concealed with a mysterious charm.

Smoke & Mirrors draws on geometric form and resolution, while merging the boundaries of object
and fashion design. Jewellery is no longer a static form, but a multifunctional enigma, one that
tests and celebrates the mind’s logic; communicating rationality and reason.

"Live Green", Sydney's first carbon neutral festival, is on again

10am-4pm Sunday 17 August at Victoria Park, building on last year's

inaugural event attended by more than 10,000 people looking for tips

and strategies to live more sustainably.

A combination of fair day, carnival, market place and outdoor

learning centre, Live Green enables people to become more

environmentally aware, learn how simple lifestyle changes can make a

big difference to the future of our planet.

The day includes live entertainment, seminars and workshops, cooking

demonstrations, a produce market, food and homeware stalls, and a

green bar selling naturally brewed beer, organic wines, fruit and

well-being beverages.

The City of Sydney precinct will provide information about our

sustainability initiatives, including zero waste, becoming Australia's

first carbon neutral Council, car share and Sustainable Sydney 2030,

our vision to ensure our City's vitality and liveability now and into

the future.

An exciting new feature at this year's festival is our Green House.

You will be able to walk through this demonstration house and discover

ways to reduce your home's environmental footprint. It showcases

environmentally friendly ways to renovate, providing examples of

energy and water efficiency, waste reduction and sustainable

technologies.

As part of our commitment to be carbon neutral, Live Green will have

a zero emissions balance. A carbon audit conducted by the Carbon

Reduction Institute will determine Live Green's carbon impact, which

will be offset through the use of Green Power and the purchase of

carbon credits.

Live Green ambassador Kylie Kwong will present free cooking classes

in the Kitchen Marquee, along will presentations on cooking with

sustainable seafood from Jodie Wallace (Flying Fish) and the use of

local and seasonal produce by Jared Ingersoll (Dank Street Depot).

Next Sunday's environmental celebration also includes:

* Seminars and workshops on green marketing, climate change

investment and green career options, with leading authorities debating

issues and taking questions from the audience.

* Watershed workshops, teaching people how to set up a simple worm

farm or use homemade low impact cleaning products.

* A Children's Marquee and Stage with performances throughout the

day, eco art activities, giant worm farm and renewable energy

workshops.

* Valet bike parking and bike safety checks.

* Eco-fashion and beauty stalls showcasing sustainable design and

production.

* Fresh produce, green services and products stalls.
